Declan has over 8 years of insolvency experience as well as a short stint in corporate finance. Declan has extensive experience in both personal and corporate insolvency.

He has gained experience across a large range of industries including retail, manufacturing, hospitality, commercial property, building and construction and agriculture.

Declan is a Registered Liquidator, Registered Trustee, Chartered Accountant, professional member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) and is a Justice of the Peace.

Declan is also a member of the ARITA Young Professionals Committee (Queensland) since 2019, Chairing the 2023 committee. ​In 2019, he was the winner of The Accountants Daily 30 Under 30 Restructuring & Insolvency and a finalist in 2020 & 2021.

Declan can assist clients in Spanish having lived and worked abroad in Madrid, Spain

Navin Lal

Senior Manager

Navin joined Cathro & Partners in May 2022 with over 20 years of insolvency experience across a number of national insolvency firms.

Navin has extensive experience in both personal and corporate insolvency.

He has gained experience across a large range of industries including mining, insurance, hospitality, engineering, renewable energy, educational resources, building and construction and telecommunication.

Navin is a Chartered Accountant, is a professional member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA), and is also a NSW Justice of the Peace.

Navin can assist clients in Hindi.

In his spare time, Navin enjoys playing golf, working on project cars and travelling.

James Le Messurier

James has over 13 years of corporate advisory and insolvency experience and has been involved in a wide range of formal and informal corporate and personal insolvency projects including Voluntary Administrations, Deeds of Company Arrangement, Liquidations, Receiverships, Safe Harbour, Bankruptcies, Part XI Deceased Estates and Part X Personal Insolvency Agreements.

James is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA) and the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association (ARITA) and has specific experience across a number of industry sectors including:

• Retail;
• Construction;
• Not-for-Profit organisations;
• Aviation;
• Mining;
• Transport and logistics;
• Land subdivisions; and
• Registered Training Organisations

Jordan Lai

Manager

Jordan has 5 years of experience in the insolvency and restructuring industry, having worked extensively on both personal and corporate insolvency appointments with both boutique and large accounting firms. In particular, he has specialised understanding of public examinations and reporting on the financial viability of corporate and government entities.

Jordan holds a Bachelor of Commerce / Laws majoring in Finance from Deakin University and is an Admitted Lawyer in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Jordan has a passion for sport and performance training, so much so, he has returned to study a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at La Trobe University in his spare time.

Kira Li (nee Yu)

Kira has 9 years of insolvency and restructuring experience, having been exposed to a variety of formal appointments including Voluntary Administrations, Deed of Company Arrangements, Receiverships, Mortgagee in Possessions, Creditors’ Voluntary and Court Liquidations and Bankruptcies.

Kira’s focus in recent years has been assisting non-bank financiers with the enforcement of their securities, providing Safe Harbour advice and preparing Expert Reports which can be used in recovery actions and court proceedings.

Kira is a member of the CA and ARITA. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting.

In her free time, Kira enjoys playing badminton, bouldering and volleyball.

Patrick Skippen

Patrick joined Cathro & Partners in September 2022. He has over 5 years experience in the insolvency and restructuring sector.

Patrick has experience in all types of formal appointments (receiverships, voluntary administrations, liquidations and deed of company arrangements) and also has experience in Safe Harbour, advisory matters and preparation of Expert Reports for the purposes of court proceedings. In these matters Patrick has worked closely with management, boards, lenders, accountants and solicitors to achieve commercial outcomes.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology Sydney, is a Chartered Accountant and intends to shortly commence the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association (ARITA) course in 2023.

Charles Taylor

Charles joined Cathro & Partners in September 2022 with 5 years of insolvency experience across a number of national insolvency firms.

Charles has extensive experience in both corporate and personal insolvency appointments including Voluntary administration, Deed of Company Arrangements, Creditors’ Voluntary and Court Liquidations, and Bankruptcy.

Charles has a Bachelor of Business and Commerce / Bachelor of Laws majoring in Accounting from Western Sydney University and is a Chartered Accountant. He is currently studying to complete ARITA Advanced Certification.

In his spare time, Charles likes to go to the gym, play football and spend time with his family.

Hamza Syed

Hamza Syed joined Cathro & Partners in June 2022 after working for the Australian Taxation Office as well as in corporate and private accounting sectors.

Hamza has experience in superannuation rules and regulation, preparation of tax returns, business activity statements, and financial statements.

Hamza has a Bachelor of Applies Finance and Professional Accounting from Macquarie University.

Stephen Thomas

Stephen Thomas joined Cathro & Partners in July 2022, previously having worked for a boutique financial advisory firm.

Stephen has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Cardiff University . He is currently working to complete his Masters of Applied Science in Finance and Investment and starting his Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 commencing in 2023.

Deirdre Bryant

Deirdre is an experienced Industry Specialist with demonstrated history of working in the Accounting Industry who works closely with CFOs to identify and change inadequate accounting processes within SMEs.

Recent experience includes:

• Identification of fraudulent practices at a national mortgage broking business

• Implementing accounts management processes at a national accounting firm

• Improvement of accounting processes at a commercial electrical installation business.

Prior to joining Cathro Partners, Deirdre has worked at boutique, national and international restructuring practices. She also has worked in accounts management positions at service industry companies as well as the major banks.

Cassie Doolan

Cassie joined Cathro and Partners’ Brisbane office as a consultant in July 2023 and works across a range of corporate and personal insolvency projects.

Cassie comes to us with a solid educational background, having graduated from the University of Queensland in 2021 with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting. As well as her financial experience, Cassie also brings a range of broader experiences garnered from roles in hospitality including team management, business administration and supplier management. Her experience, academic achievements and passion for finance make her a valued addition to our organisation.

Joshua Grujevski

Joshua joined Cathro & Partners in September 2023, having previously worked in audit for a chartered firm and in a paraplanning position for a boutique financial firm. Joshua has experience in analysis of financial statements, preparation of balance sheets, testing and verifying assets/transactions of a company. He has also prepared client files for compliance, and redistributed cash in investments & superannuation. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce, Majoring in Finance from the University of Newcastle. Prior to commencing, he competed for the NSW karate team in AKF tournaments and taught karate, having practiced for over 15 years. He enjoys photography and playing chess in his spare time.

Henri joined Cathro & Partners in August 2023, having previously worked across a number of customer service roles. Henri is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Professional Accounting and Finance at the University of Sydney.

Cormac Taylor

Cormac joined Cathro & Partners in January 2024, after graduating from the University of Melbourne, majoring in Finance and Economics.

Whilst at university, Cormac obtained practical experience in undergraduate roles for both private equity and large consulting firms, focusing on client advisory, financial reporting and market analysis.

In his spare time, Cormac enjoys playing soccer and the guitar.

Liam Anderson

Liam joined Cathro and Partners as a consultant in March 2024 having completed his Bachelors in Professional Accounting from Macquarie University and obtaining prior experience working in Boutique level Insolvency.

Currently, Liam is focused on developing his knowledge in corporate and personal insolvency projects and developing the skills that will allow him to excel in his role across different types of appointments. In the future Liam is looking to obtain both memberships in CAANZ and ARITA and applying those skills in a wide range of diverse industries across Australia.

Aby Benjamin

Aby is an experienced financial consultant and advisor, with a notable background in working with renowned Big 4 firms. His expertise lies in providing expert guidance to stakeholders, including lenders, investors, and company boards, safeguarding the value of their assets and investments, especially in distressed companies. As a skilled cash flow monitoring advisor, Aby is committed to optimizing capital and ensuring real-time visibility into financial health, including early warning signals of asset deterioration.

With a global perspective gained from diverse jurisdictions like the UK, Australia, Germany, and New Zealand, Aby’s portfolio covers various industries, including iron & steel, power, manufacturing, hospitality, loyalty business, and retail. His recent exposure to Indian stressed companies has further enriched his understanding of unique financial challenges in different markets.

At Cathro & Partners Aby leads a team of junior consultants who work across a range of insolvency, analytics, marketing and bookkeeping matters, providing comprehensive support to enhance the operational efficiency of our business.

Tina Campbell

Tina joined Cathro & Partners in September 2022 previously having worked for a superannuation fund as the Executive Assistant to the CEO for 7 years.

Tina has a wealth of knowledge and experience in providing high level support and office managerial skills within various industries, in particular the Financial Services sector.

Tina oversees the daily operations of the office and possesses excellent organizational skills to develop, implement and streamline systems. She is committed to ensuring the office runs smoothly and effectively for seamless delivery and execution of our services by all staff.
